Real Madrid are wasting no time in preparing their squad for the 2024/25 season. With two key signings already secured and a third on the brink of being finalized, Los Blancos could make a fourth signing before their journey to the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.
While much attention is on the arrival of new manager Xabi Alonso, the club’s transfer strategy has been just as aggressive as it is calculated—especially when it comes to strengthening the backline and midfield.
Defensive reinforcements already in motion
So far, Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and Bournemouth center-back Dean Huijsen are expected to join Real Madrid in the coming weeks. Huijsen’s signing was officially announced last weekend, as part of the club’s plan to rebuild and future-proof the defense.
Now, Real Madrid are believed to be close to sealing a deal for Álvaro Carreras, a promising young left-back. The 21-year-old Spaniard has impressed scouts and fits the mold of a modern, dynamic full-back—someone who can provide depth behind Ferland Mendy or even push for a starting role.
Midfield targets also in Real Madrid’s sights
Xabi Alonso is reportedly eager to bring in a new midfielder to add balance and control in the center of the pitch. While many expect a physically strong, tempo-controlling player to be the priority, a playmaker may also be added to the mix.
One name emerging again is Nico Paz, who was allowed to join Como last year. The Argentine midfielder has developed rapidly, and Real Madrid have a €9 million buyback clause which they’re seriously considering activating this summer—possibly before the Club World Cup begins.
Initially, the club’s idea was to bring Paz back and potentially sell him on for profit, but his impressive displays in Serie B have convinced many inside the club that he deserves another shot at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Minutes dilemma: Paz vs Güler
The main issue with bringing back Paz is how he would fit into the current squad, especially considering the development of Arda Güler. Both players are highly creative, often operating in similar spaces on the pitch.
Reports suggest that Inter Milan were keen on signing Paz, but if he returns to Real Madrid, it will be difficult for Alonso to provide sufficient minutes to both the Argentine and the Turkish starlet. It’s a tactical headache—but a good one to have—especially with so many fixtures across La Liga, the Champions League, and now the expanded Club World Cup.
MadridistasZone Opinion:
Real Madrid seem determined to enter the new era under Xabi Alonso with a deep, versatile, and youthful squad. Whether Nico Paz returns or not, one thing is clear: the competition for places will be fiercer than ever, especially in midfield. Personally, I’d love to see Paz back in white. He’s technically gifted, has matured significantly, and could offer something unique—if managed properly.
