Marcelo reflects on Real Madrid stars and calls Mbappé “impressive”Marcelo

Former Real Madrid legend Marcelo has been away from top-level football since retiring in early 2025, but the Brazilian icon continues to reflect fondly on his time at the Santiago Bernabeu. In a recent interview with Diario AS, he shared his admiration for several current Real Madrid stars, including Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, and Fede Valverde.

Marcelo praises Real Madrid’s new generation

Marcelo spoke warmly about Vinicius and Rodrygo, both of whom arrived at Real Madrid while he was still part of the squad.

“As footballers they are incredible and even more so as people. I’ve seen them since they were 18 years old, like Fede Valverde and Militao. I see them as great footballers. They are no longer promises. In Madrid and Brazil there is pressure, you have to produce every year. They are very good and have a great future.”

His words reflect strong confidence in the development of the club’s new generation, many of whom are now key players both for Real Madrid and their national teams.

Marcelo: I wanted to play with Kylian Mbappé

Marcelo also admitted that one regret from his playing career is that he never got the chance to play alongside Kylian Mbappé, who officially joined Real Madrid later than expected.

“He is very good, impressive, a physical wonder. He has a lot of quality, he is hardworking, he fights, he scores goals… I love him, to be honest. I wanted to have played with him, but he was a little late.”

The Brazilian praised Mbappé as a complete and dominant footballer, calling him a “physical wonder” and highlighting his mix of talent, work ethic, and scoring ability.

Marcelo gives his view on Lamine Yamal

Marcelo also shared his thoughts on Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, acknowledging that facing him would have been a serious challenge.

“He’s very good. He would be a problem for me. Until my last day as a footballer I haven’t found a band so it was more or less against me. They were always very fast… Lamine would surely have haggled with me.”

The former left-back admitted that Yamal’s speed and skill would have caused him difficulties, as quick wingers always posed the biggest threat during his career.

Marcelo’s comments highlight the changing landscape of European football, with new talents emerging while legends of the previous era continue to observe the game from the outside.

MadridistasZone comment:

Marcelo’s words show once again why he remains one of the most respected figures in Real Madrid’s recent history. His admiration for Vinicius, Rodrygo, and Mbappé highlights both the talent of the new generation and the strong connection he still feels with the club. It’s always interesting to hear how former players view the current squad, especially when their insights come from years of experience at the highest level.
