Kylian Mbappe

Real Madrid’s preparations for their crucial Champions League clash against Manchester City have suffered another major setback. Xabi Alonso is already under heavy pressure, with many in Spain describing Wednesday’s match at the Santiago Bernabéu as “must-win”. Now, he may be forced to face Pep Guardiola’s side without his biggest star.

Mbappé received heavy strapping on his left hand during Sunday’s game after suffering a finger injury. It has since been confirmed that he suffered a broken finger, although the French forward was still expected to play through the pain, as it did not affect his ability to perform.

However, a second problem has emerged — and this one may keep him out of the decisive European clash.

Mbappé misses training ahead of Manchester City clash

Players who do not train the day before a major match are typically not included in the starting lineup, and this was the case for Mbappé on Tuesday. The 25-year-old did not take part in Real Madrid’s final training session due to muscle discomfort in his left leg.

According to Marca, he is now considered a “serious doubt” for the Manchester City game. His participation has not been fully ruled out, but the decision will depend entirely on how he feels on the day of the match.

Mbappé a serious doubt for Real Madrid vs Man City after new injury setback

Camavinga and Huijsen ruled out

On top of Mbappé’s concerns, Real Madrid will also be without Eduardo Camavinga and Dean Huijsen. Camavinga missed the Celta Vigo match with an ankle sprain and has not recovered in time. Huijsen is still experiencing knee discomfort and has been unavailable for the last two weeks.

Neither player trained on Tuesday, confirming their absence for Wednesday’s Champions League showdown.

Long injury list forces defensive reshuffle

The injury situation continues to complicate Alonso’s plans. Dani Carvajal, Trent Alexander-Arnold, David Alaba, Éder Militão, and Ferland Mendy all remain unavailable.

As a result, Fede Valverde is expected to start once again at right-back, while Antonio Rüdiger will partner Raúl Asencio in central defence. On the left flank, Álvaro Carreras is likely to get the nod ahead of Fran García.

MadridistasZone view:

My opinion: Losing Mbappé in a match of this magnitude would be a huge blow for Real Madrid. With so many injuries across the squad, the team will need extraordinary determination and tactical discipline to overcome Manchester City, especially if their top scorer is not fully fit.
